Country Life on Highway 12
is the story of the Barton family. Although
there is a little make-believe mixed into it, it's based
on the true experiences of Sue Barton Thomas
(granddaughter of John Fowler Wilson) and her family. It's a
nostalgic and humorous look back at the "good ole
days".
Sue started the project only as a keepsake of childhood memories for her children, but kept adding to it until it was big enough for a paperback. It represents the way a rural family handled life through both good and bad times and the lessons they learned along the way.
Sue has written several short stories that have won literary awards around her community. Some of the stories are featured in the book. It's a clean and wholesome account of life during that time, and is suitable to be read by anyone of any age.
Among the many stories in the book are some both true and fictional yarns involving granddaddy John Wilson and his wife, grandmother Hettie Mae Wilson. (Or "Mammie", as the grandkids called her.)
It doesn't matter if you're country
folk or city folk, you'll laugh and you'll cry. And
hopefully, you'll be a little entertained. So kick back,
go get your reading glasses, and take a trip to
yesteryear.

The book's cover picture above is of Hettie Mae Wilson, wife of John Fowler Wilson, in her golden years after granddaddy John's passing. It was taken at the last Earthly home she knew, that of Clinton Barton and Thelma Wilson Barton, on Highway 12, six miles from Kosciusko, Mississippi. |
